The General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, met today with the German Ambassador to Cyprus, Ms Anke Schlimm. The General Secretary of AKEL was accompanied by Vera Polycarpou, Head of International Relations and European Policy of the C.C. of AKEL.
During the meeting there was mainly an exchange of views on the upcoming elections for the European Parliament and the issues that are the centre of the discussions underway. Stefanos Stefanou denounced the ongoing genocide being committed against the Palestinians in Gaza, as well as expressing AKEL’s deep concern about the possibility of a regional inflammation.
The General Secretary of AKEL also stressed that AKEL is critical of the double standards policy pursued by the EU’s foreign policy. As regards issues affecting the daily life of societies across EU member states, S.Stefanou underlined the need for socio-economic policies that should ensure cohesion and equal development.
Finally, Stefanos Stefanou referred to the need to take initiatives and moves to break the deadlock on the Cyprus problem and create momentum for the resumption of the negotiations from where they had remained at Crans Montana.
