Round table meeting with the UN Secretary General’s envoy on the solution of the Cyprus problem
Intervention by the General Secretary of PEO
A roundtable meeting on the solution of the Cyprus problem was held recently with the participation of several organizations with María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar, the Personal Envoy of the Secretary General of the UN on Cyprus, María Àngela Holguin Cuéllar.
The General Secretary of the Pancyprian Federation of Labour (PERO) Sotiroula Charalambous, in her intervention at the meeting, underlined that the time was working against Cypriots and the solution, strengthening the current status quo and leading to the permanent partition of Cyprus, also stressing that the solution of the Cyprus problem has never been more urgent.
The General Secretary of PEO also pointed out the common views adopted by the trade union movement on the freedom of trade union organisation, free movement and the right to choose employers anywhere in Cyprus and the implementation of unified labour relations, wage levels and social insurance system.
Furthermore, Sotiroulla Charalambous emphasized the trade union movement contribution to mobilizing working people, whilst also referring to the numerous activities and initiatives it has undertaken to bring the two communities closer together.
