UK expats moving to Cyprus have been warned over making a big mistake. An expat in Cyprus has moved to warn Brits who are looking to head abroad over why people “regret” moving there, saying “it’s very slow and energy draining”.
Rico Co, who moved to Cyprus from Germany in 2019, says living in the holiday hotspot can be “draining”. The expat warned: “Things can be very slow here and energy draining. By that I mean a lot of service providers are not on time.
“A lot of offices take ages to finish documents, and people are just really relaxed here.” Rico continued: “As relaxing as this sounds, a lot of people actually hate it and regret moving here because of it because they want to get things done quickly and professionally.”
He warned that there are plenty of products you “won’t find”, plus well-known brands. He said: “If you’re a fancy shopper, you’ll definitely want to shop somewhere else The infrastructure for that has simply not been laid out yet.”
Cyprus has one of the best climates in Europe. TUI explains on its website: “Blue skies come as standard, and the island sees a massive 340 days of sunshine a year. Swimsuit temperatures kick in as early as April, when the mercury rises into the low 20s.
“Things get much hotter in the summer – 30 degrees is normal, although don’t be surprised if the thermometer creeps closer to 40 on some days. Autumn is slightly cooler, so it’s perfect for sightseeing or hiking in the Troodos Mountains.
“Cyprus gets most of its rain between December and March, but it’s not much, and temperatures are still pretty mild.” Cyprus even welcomes expats with open arms, with roughly 70,000 British and UK expats currently living on the island, according to statistics.
