McDonald’s fans who are missing the fast food chain’s Halloumi Fries should fear not – Burger King has announced its version of the Cypriot cheese treats is back on the menu, and even claims it has had the seal of approval from Greek Yiayias.

They have also been given a fresh ‘seal of approval’ from Greek Cypriot Yiayia’s (the Greek word for Grandma), who were able to sample them in a pre-launch taste test.

The fries are made with strips of 100% Cypriot halloumi, sourced directly from Cyprus – renowned as the home of the savoury, squeaky cheese.

Available as a five-piece or eight-piece side, the golden and cheesy fries are perfect as a snack or accompaniment to level-up a meal, and come served with a signature Sweet Chilli sauce dip.

Yiayias from London’s Greek Cypriot Society were invited to a taste test, where they awarded Burger King UK Halloumi Fries the coveted ‘Yiayia seal of approval’ thanks to their delicious flavour and authenticity.

Bambi Steel and Helen Zannicos, members of East London’s Hellenic Cypriot Society said: ‘We loved tasting Burger King’s Halloumi Fries this week.

‘They are the perfect balance of cheesy and salty, and the fact they’re made with quality ingredients sourced from Cyprus makes them taste even better.

‘We’re pleased to award them with our very own Yiayia seal of approval!’

Halloumi Fries will be available at Burger King restaurants across the UK nationwide and, for the first time, via delivery, which you can order exclusively on Uber Eats from April 23 to May 6.

It comes after rival fast food chain McDonald’s announced the latest set of limited menu items for their April revamp including a brand-new Lotus Biscoff Frappé.

Also part of the biscuity collaboration is the return of the Lotus Biscoff McFlurry, with the Chicken Big Mac also making a comeback.

The Lotus Biscoff collaboration headlines is top of the bill for the new menu, but there are plenty more returning delights for customers.

Already a favourite among many with a Biscoff crumb swirled onto the soft serve giving it that extra crunch, the Biscoff McFlurry will be at the same price it launched at last June – £1.99.

A mini version will also be available at £1.59, 10p more than it was 10 months ago.

On the savoury side, a Quarter Pounder Deluxe – £4.89 – and Chicken Big Mac – £4.69 – are joining the burger menu.

There is also a new side available to order, with a portion of five Cheese and Herb Melts – made with a blend of mozzarella and Emmental and served with a tomato dip – bringing a cheesy alternative to fries at £2.89, or £7.09 for a sharebox.
