AEK U15s v New Salamis in Cup Semi-Final Clash

After AEK came out on top in the recent semi final clash for the League Cup, the prize at stake this time was a place in the Challenge Cup final.

With plenty of supporters eager to witness the clash between two good footballing side, the game was a well-fought and spirited affair.

AEK started brightly and playing some great football, were on the front foot. The midfield trio of Kyros, Sami and Marcus, constantly creating chances with their passing, clever movement and vision and forwards Michael, Tristan and Lucca creating havoc.

With AEK dominating the match, they took an early lead with an exceptional goal.
A clearance from an AEK corner fell to forward Michael, who met it on the volley and unleashed a ferocious left foot shot which curled round the GK and in off the post.

The match intensified towards half time, and with AEK continuing to create opportunities, they only took a slender 1-0 lead at half time.

With the second half underway, New Salamis came out with purpose to get themselves back into the game. Probing and seeking space, they came close with an effort off the bar, but with the AEK defence being expertly marshalled by CB’s Jon and Arjon and vocal GK Theo on good form, they manage to thwart any Salamis’ attempts to equalize.

Despite New Salamis’ endeavours, it was AEK who were showing their class on the counter-attack. Fullbacks Amarion and Angel were not allowing the Salamis any space and midfielders Nahimia and JT using their power and pace well, AEK were in the mood and despite several chances missed, their efforts were rewarded with a fine solo goal by Harun who popped up on the left wing, beat his defender and drilled a low shot into the corner past the Salamis GK. Not bad for a Centreback and it was his goal that sealed the win for AEK.

Credit to Salamis, at 2-0 down and the tie slipping from their grasp, they continued to persevere and work hard, but it was not their day.

A mention to the players where both teams showcased great technical ability and the tie was played in good competitive spirit, but in the end it was AEK who emerged victorious, clinching a well-earned victory to secure their place cup final.

With 2 Cup Finals to look forward to on the 12th and 19th of May, AEK will be quietly confident of maximising their potential in both.

Goals – Michael, Harun
MOM- Lucca: Captain Fantastic with a tremendous work ethic and selfless team performance and worked very hard to keep the Salamis defence busy.
