The Barracuda Fish and Chip Takeaway & Restaurant on Headstone Parade, Headstone Drive in Harrow is celebrating after winning The Best Fish and Chip Establishment 2023 for the whole of England.
Owner, Yiannis Christofis, travelled to Birmingham having been nominated for the Best Fish and Chip Establishment 2023 in England South by the Food Awards. After hearing the winners from the other food categories, The Best Fish and Chip Establishment for the South of England 2023 was awarded to the Barracuda, which by this point, had been the shops biggest accolade to date.
Unbeknown to any of the nominees, there was also to be an overall winner, covering the North, Midlands and South of the country. Whilst still on stage receiving the regional award, Yiannis was then announced as the overall national winner for Best Fish and Chip Establishment 2023, dwarfing the original award.
The awards ceremony are held each year to recognise and reward the talent and hard work of the English food industry, highlighting the best restaurants, takeaways, pubs, cafes, and producers.
The winners were selected based on the votes of the public, who nominated their favourite establishments across various categories. A Spokesperson for The Food Awards England 2023 said: “We received an overwhelming response from the public, who nominated some fantastic establishments across the country.
Commenting on the incredible achievement, Barracuda owner Yiannis Christofis said: “To have been nominated for and to then win the Best Fish and Chip Establishment for the South of England is an achievement in itself. But I never would have anticipated that we would go on to win a national award for the whole of the country. To win two awards in one night is a remarkable achievement for us, but we were immensely proud to have been presented with third accolade in the same week for the Good Food Awards 2024, something we have won for the fifth consecutive year in a row.
“I have dedicated this award in loving memory of my beautiful sister, Maria, who many of our customers also got to know, and who was always there to lend a hand in our shop.”
