New Salamis welcomed Stowmarket Town to Coles Park, and welcomed a goal after only four minutes, Cem Poyraz opening the scoring, the tenth goal Stow had conceded this week. It was two-nil twelve minutes before half time, and three-nil four minutes later, Kyle Lynch and Christos Batzelis increasing the advantage. Five minutes into the second half the fourth arrived, Albert Adu with it, and they soon saw Joe Waight score a fifth, before the visitors finally got on the scoresheet twenty minutes from time, Josh Buckles with the consolation.
New Salamis made an announcement last week that with great sadness that we announce that this will be our last season in the Isthmian League and our over 18’s team will cease playing at the end of the season.
Over the years, thanks to our players, supporters, members and sponsors we have achieved success beyond our wildest dreams. Unfortunately due to increasing financial constraints we are unable to maintain the high standards that we have set for ourselves and 2024 will be our last season.
The club will not end, we will still continue to run our youth teams and this will be our focus in the coming years.
As we end the season we hope to see our friends and give the team the respect that it deserves.
On behalf of the committee – Thank you for the support !
I went to the match on Saturday and I only saw about 30 people there its a shame as we made a plea for people to support.
Its also sad that a club like New Salamis from the KOPA League have reached so high as to play in the Isthmian League which is four levels below the Football League and let it go.
Would it not be a great achievement if we had a UK Cypriot team in the Football League.
Its something that us as a UK Cypriot Community we must address not just with New Salamis but with all sporting organisations, village associations Greek Schools, Churches, Community Centres and all our charitable organisations.
Our first generation founded these organisations through a lot of work and effort whilst trying to earn a living.
The next generation found them ready made, its now our turn and duty to try and maintain and keep thse organisations going.
Its important we try and keep our Cypriot identity within the UK.
