What a great experience for Omonia Youth U15’s travellng as a team for their first time to Cyprus and making their club and our community proud by putting in grand performances against AEK, Anorthosis and Omonia.
They arrived in Larnaca via Luton and stayed at the Livadhiotis City hotel in Larnaca for a week who they like to thank for the excellent service.
Omonia Youth U15s started on a high in their debut in Cyprus. The team from London who play in the Watford friendly League did not have any idea about the opposition and gave a solid performance against ÁEK Larnaca. Omonia settled down quickly after a nervous start their first dangerous attack came after 10 minutes when Leo run through passing to Nicola whose shot was saved by the AEK keeper.
Five minutes later a defensive scramble allowed Nicola through who shot just wide.
By now Omonia Youth had control and saw a Nicola shot hit the bar.
After 25 minutes Omonia Youth striker Kordian broke through to stroke the ball past the opposing keeper to give his team a 1-0 lead .
AEK tried to get back into the game but. Omonia were comfortable and a great 30 yard blaster from Kyri that powered into the back of the AEĶ net gave Omonia Youth a 2-0 win and a great start to their Cyprus tour.
Their second match was against Anorthosis where again Omonia Youth pulled off another good performance and started very well hitting the woodwork with a shot from Nicola and minutes later they eventually took the lead when Charlie was pulled down after a glorious run into the penalty box giving the opportunity for Andre to slam the ball from the spot kick into the back of the net to give Omonia Youth a one nil lead.
It wasn’t easy for the London team as Anorthosis tried to get back into the match with some good technical football. Omonia Youth were more powerful and direct and looked more likely to score, which they did when Lewis passed it to Charlie who crossed and a Nicola assist found Kordian who placed the ball home for a second win for Omonia Youth and two wins.
Now facing their third game in three days Omonia Youth made the trip to Nicosia the Capital of Cyprus on a wet day to play Omonia Academy there they were welcomed by the Omonia coaching staff and players who presented each Omonia Youth player with a generous goodies bag consisting of a Omonia mug, scarves and sunglasses.
We were now questioning whether a third game in three days would take its toll on a Omonia Youth team.
The Nicosia side started well with a very good technical high standard of football being played from them and took the lead after Andre from the London side had earlier cleared the ball off the line and after hitting the bar and scramble in the box the Nicosia side took the lead. Omonia youth equalised not long after when Nicola was pulled down in the penalty box and Andre was on hand to score from the spot.
The London side rose to the occasion and created a few chances one in particularly was when Leo crossed and all it needed was a touch for a goal.
Omonia increased their lead to 3-1 and Omonia Youth made it 3-2 with a brilliant headed goal from Leo from a free kick from Nicola. The teams went into the break with Omonia nicosia leading 4-2 half time.
Omonia Nicosia added fresh legs the second half and the London side never recovered although they tried, the energy was not there and the excellent tick tock football from the Nicosia side just took over and it was a joy to watch ending with Omonia Nicosia scoring another four goals ending the game 8-2.
A great experience for Omonia Yuth U15’s a trip that they will never forget and congratulations to them on representing Omonia Youth and our community back in London,
