Grab your caps, shades and chains and get ready to rap, rhyme and dance along with British born Cypriot MC Grammar as he embarks upon his first headline live tour, ‘Stop! It’s Grammar Time!’, next month.
The award-winning rapping teacher, ambassador for charity World Book Day® and star of Sky Kids’ smash shows ‘Wonder Raps’ and ‘Rap Tales’ has been inspiring children across the world with his infectiously fun educational rhymes since his rapped version of ‘The Gruffalo’ went viral in 2019 with 10 million+ views.
MC Grammar says, “I am going on tour! And with ten dates across the UK, I can’t wait to rap all of the classics, including the World Book Day songs. This epic event is going to be fun for the whole family. We are gonna read! We are gonna rap! We are gonna dance! And we’re going to learn! I will see you there!”
The tour announcement coincides with the release of MC Grammar’s 2024 World Book Day® song, ‘Readers are Leaders’, which has been created in support of the charity’s mission to encourage children to read for pleasure – a cause MC Grammar has supported since 2021. The track sees MC Grammar praising all of the infinite adventures and escapes that reading can offer. As his lyrics state, “Anything is possible written in a sentence / You could be a dentist, a sorcerer’s apprentice / See what Rosa Parks saw, see what Malcolm X did / Climb Mount Everest, or you could be like Sherlock, a private detective / You can go anywhere, you can be anything.” Listen at https://orcd.co/readersareleaders.
He adds, “Nearly a million children in the UK* do not own a single book. I wrote this song for them — and with the support of World Book Day, Young Voices and all of you out there reading this, all of the profits from the sales of the single will be donated to buy books for those exact children. We have an incredible opportunity here to come together and be the change they so desperately need. Reading changes lives: education, occupation, mental health, relationships…you name it! Readers become leaders — and books are the key. The perfect gift from you and me. Please support this important life-changing mission.”
‘Readers Are Leaders’ is MC Grammar’s latest World Book Day® song after ‘Reading Is Amazing’ (2022) and ‘Wowza! The World Book Day Song’ (2021). This year’s World Book Day will be held on Thursday 7th March, encouraging all children to discover how to ‘Read Your Way’. For more reading ideas and activities please visit www.worldbookday.com.
MC Grammar is living proof that books can change your life. He left school with just an English GCSE to his name, but soon returned to education and used his love of hip-hop rhymes to help remember his revision notes. Having conquered his exams and subsequently graduated from university, he was offered a record deal but instead focused on his career as a teacher. His unorthodox but engaging teaching style helped his students navigate the then-new spelling, punctuation and grammar test, and it wasn’t long before he was invited to perform in schools across north London. MC Grammar was born.
Since his viral moment with ‘The Gruffalo’, MC Grammar has rapped about almost every subject imaginable, from volcanoes and dinosaurs to adverbs and the times table. His journey has been highlighted with high profile TV appearances including ‘The Ellen Show’ ‘BBC Breakfast’, ‘Blue Peter’ and ‘This Morning’. His philosophy is simple: music inspires kids to learn and read, and those who read achieve much more.
MC Grammar has performed in the US, UAE, Bermuda, Cyprus and Germany, but now it’s time to take his home nation by storm. And he can’t wait!

About World Book Day®
World Book Day is a charity that changes lives through a love of books and reading. Our mission is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own. Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success – more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational background or their income. We want to see more children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, with a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances this brings them. Designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, World Book Day is marked in over 100 countries around the globe. www.worldbookday.com
