The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, has ordered diplomats to hold a full investigation into plans to redevelop the abandoned ghost town of Varosha.
It comes as the Royal household has moved quickly to distance King Charles from the huge diplomatic row which has exploded after Express.co.uk revealed the plans by a consortium of billionaires to turn the abandoned resort of Varosha into the “Vegas of the Med”.

Tatar, the Turkish Cypriot community leader said that it is believed that the King owns the Golden Sands Hotel in the resort.
When it opened in 1974 it was the world’s first ever seven star hotel and was so big it had a mini railway inside to take guests to their rooms. But the hotel was forced to close after a few weeks when civil war erupted in Cyprus, the island was divided and Varosha abandoned.
But now a plan has been put together to bring the resort which was the play area of the stars including Sophia Loren, Raquel Welch and Richard Burton, back to life again.
