The Welwyn Hatfield Neighbourhood Policing Team have seized two dogs in Hatfield after reports from worried residents.

On Tuesday (16 January), officers carried out a warrant in Albatross Way and seized what are believed to be a Staffordshire Bull Terrier/Labrador cross breed and a Staffordshire Bull Terrier/Rottweiler cross.

Residents had been reporting multiple incidents of two dangerous dogs in and around the nearby Ellenbrook Fields area – a place popular with dog walkers. On one occasion a cyclist was bitten and sustained a minor injury.

The team took action and applied through the magistrates’ court to secure a warrant to seize the dogs.

Both animals were successfully seized with assistance from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Dog Unit.

They are now in the care of the dog unit whilst a decision is made regarding their ownership.

Sergeant Robert Wilson, from the Welwyn Hatfield Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I hope this reassures the public that we are always listening to your concerns. The reports that residents made allowed us to build up a picture of intelligence so that we could secure the warrant and stop these dogs from harming anyone further.

“The dogs are being well looked after and cared for by our officers in the dog unit.

“Their owner – a man aged in his fifties – has been interviewed and an investigation is ongoing. If you have any information that you think might, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.”
