An orange warning for rain and locally heavy thunderstorms was issued on Monday by the Cyprus Department of Meteorology. The orange warning, in effect from 22:00 on Monday night (local time), January 29 until 22:00 on Wednesday night, January 31, warns for rain and locally heavy thunderstorms expected to affect mainly the northern half and eastern areas of the island at times.

It is also noted that hail is likely to fall in a storm.

It is added that the precipitation rate of the rain is expected to range between 55 and 70 mm per hour.

Moreover, in a separate press release, the Cyprus Department of Meteorology reminds that in all cases where there is a possibility of rain, those who have drainage wells under their supervision should check and clean them to avoid water accumulation.

“The public is advised to monitor the weather reports and warnings issued by the Department of Meteorology for information,” the press release concludes.
