A ground-floor flat was destroyed by the fire. One man was rescued from the building before the arrival of the Brigade. He was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews, where he sadly later died. Five other people also attended hospital as a precaution.

The Brigade was called at 1133 and the fire was under control by 1256. Firefighters from West Hampstead, Kentish Town, Soho and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
