Today, the Turkish Cypriot lawyer who was arrested in Rome will respond to whether he consents to his extradition to the Republic of Cyprus or not, based on a European arrest warrant related to articles of the criminal code of the Republic of Cyprus regarding the exploitation and sale of immovable property in the occupied territoriesThe Cypriot authorities were informed on New Year’s Eve that Akan Kursat was arrested at the hotel where he was staying in Rome.

He had traveled there through Istanbul with his wife.

The Turkish Cypriot newspaper Dialog reported yesterday that all eyes are on Kursat’s response today. He has been under arrest in Italy for the past 15 days.

According to the report, today in the court in Rome, documents are expected to be presented (presumably by the defense of the Turkish Cypriot lawyer) claiming that the Central Prisons of the Republic are not secure, especially for Turkish Cypriots.
