The health condition of the migrant children rescued from a stranded boat off the coast of Cyprus two days ago is still very serious, spokesperson of the State Health Services Organization (SHSO) Charalambos Charilaou told the Cyprus News Agency on Friday. He noted that the doctors are doing their best for their condition.

Charilaou said that one more child, an 8 year old boy, who had initially been transported at Pournara Emergency Reception Centre was admitted to the ICU of Makario Children’s Hospital last night for specialised treatment.

“Their health condition is critical and it is still early for us to say anything, 48 to 72 hours must pass,” Charilaou pointed out.

One of the three children hospitalised in the ICU passed away in the early hours of Thursday due to cardiac arrest.

The little girl’s sister, aged 5, is also treated at the hospital.

The children were found unconscious in the early hours of Wednesday on a boat off Cape Greko along with 55 other people.
