Carshalton Athletic rounded out 2023 in style with a 6-0 demolition of relegation threatened Haringey Borough in North London on Saturday.
Breaking the mould of a recent history of tight encounters between the two sides, the Robins set the tone for the afternoon with a goal within 10 minutes. From a training ground corner routine, Sean O’Brien, making his first league start, picked out Paris Hamilton-Downes at the far post to head past home keeper Dillon Barnes. And 10 minutes later, Bunmi Babajide’s eighth goal of the season put some daylight between the sides.

Even a missed penalty for the second consecutive game just before half time wasn’t enough to slow the Robins’ momentum and Brad Williams added a third just before the hour.

Top scorer Danny Bassett wasn’t going to miss out on the goalfest and he moved into double figures for the season with a fourth goal with just over 20 minutes to go.

A few minutes later it was five, Luke Read with his second of the season. And with time counting down, Babajide put an exclamation point on the win with his second and Carshalton’s sixth for their biggest win of the season that vaults them two places into eighth in the division.
