Every year, the council takes a moment to acknowledge and celebrate the positive impact that residents make in their community with the Mayor’s Civic Awards and the Ben Kinsella Award. Nominations are now open for this year’s awards and residents are encouraged to take part.

The Mayor’s Civic Awards shine a spotlight on volunteers, campaigners, and fundraisers who go above and beyond for their community. You may nominate an individual or a group for a Civic Award. They should not have previously won a Civic Award for the same work.

The Ben Kinsella Award, a tribute to the late Ben Kinsella, serves as a special recognition for inspiring young people aged 18 or under who are contributing to improving life in the borough. You may nominate any young person who is an Islington resident aged 18 or under

Mayor of Islington, Cllr Gary Heather, said: “In Islington we all know someone that goes the extra distance to help neighbours, friends, family or the community. Whether they volunteer for a national or local charity or simply quietly make a difference on their own terms, make sure they get the recognition they deserve by nominating them for a Civic Award or the Ben Kinsella Award.”

“I am looking forward to meeting and expressing gratitude to the award winners for all their hard work and the positive impact they bring to our local community.

Residents are encouraged to nominate people who have made an outstanding contribution to life in the borough, especially in one of the following areas:

  • Helping Islington to become a cleaner, greener, healthier borough
  • Nurturing Islington’s children and young people
  • Supporting the safety, connection, and inclusivity of Islington’s communities
  • Supporting Islington’s residents through the cost-of-living crisis
  • Volunteering in Islington’s communities

The award winners will be announced on Thursday 21 March in a ceremony at Islington Assembly Hall. The Mayor will present the winners with the awards, accompanied by certificates and vouchers, thereby acknowledging their exceptional contributions to the community.
