In an effort to support Cyprus in managing migration flows, Greece has provided 200 tents and 800 sleeping bags through the European Union’s Civil Protection Mechanism.

The aid shipment arrived at the Limassol Port on November 29.

“The Hellenic Republic, once again, responded to the request of the Republic of Cyprus to assist by offering humanitarian aid to enhance the country’s readiness for better management of potential increased migration flows, due to events unfolding in the Middle East region,” an official announcement said.

In a ceremony on Thursday at 09:00 a.m. (local time), Ambassador of Greece to Cyprus, Ioannis Papameletiou, handed over the materials. On the part of the Republic of Cyprus, the materials were received by Marinos Papadopoulos representing the Chief of Civil Defence and Charalambos Attipas representing the Crisis Management Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ambassador reaffirmed Greece’s continued support and also acknowledged Cyprus’ responsiveness whenever there is a need. Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus conveyed warm thanks to Greece for its contribution and ongoing support.
