Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters responded to a fire at a residential block of flats on Eastern Avenue in Ilford.

Half of a fourth-floor one-bedroom flat was damaged by the fire. Five adults were treated on scene by London Ambulance Service crews and two were taken to hospital. Around 40 residents left the building before the arrival of the Brigade.

The Brigade was called at 0237 and the fire was under control by 0454. Firefighters from Hainault, Dagenham, Romford and Stratford Fire Stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
