Residents will now see the same Enfield Council street cleansing operative with their familiar yellow hand barrows sweeping the streets on a regular basis.
It is hoped that the ‘local street sweepers’ will become ‘regular faces’ in the local community.
The Council successfully piloted the new local service delivery model scheme in Brimsdown and Enfield Lock wards over a period of three months and has received positive feedback.
Last week, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Rick Jewell met up with street cleansing operative Tony Smith, in King Edwards Road in Brimsdown ward, to learn more about his working day and how he is finding his new assignment and environment.
Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Rick Jewell, said: “It was a pleasure to meet Tony and to find out more about how he is settling into his role and the challenges he faces.
“Residents are already noticing that Tony is their dedicated street sweeper and are stopping him and asking questions about his job and letting him know when they see incidents of litter and fly tipping in the local community.
“We are committed to keeping the streets clean, and by allocating a regular street cleaning operative in every ward and having a familiar and regular face on the job who maintains the cleanliness of the local area, will make a real difference.”
At this time of the year, falling leaves are cleared by these street cleansing operatives and are assisted by additional operatives help to clear roads affected by heavy leaf fall.
In addition, they will pick up litter, remove overgrown weeds and report any large, dumped items to the fly tipping team for investigation and clearance.
