A number Cypriots are travelling abroad this New Year, choosing destinations mainly in Greece and the United Kingdom, as well as countries in Central Europe, stated the President of the Association of Travel Agents (ACTA), Haris Papacharalambous, to CNA.According to Mr. Papacharalambous, the numbers for Cypriot travels abroad “will be slightly higher than in 2019 pre-pandemic, which was our best year in terms of Cypriot departures abroad.”

As he said, “exact numbers are not available for now because there are people making their own arrangements for their trips.”

However, data will be available, he notes, “a few weeks after the end of the holiday period when the Statistical Service will conduct its analyses.” He added that “indications exist for the increase recorded.”

Responding to a question, he said that Cypriots prefer for their travels firstly Greece and then the United Kingdom. Austria, France, Italy, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, and Germany follow, as he mentioned, are in demand.

The duration of Cypriot stays abroad during this period averages 4 to 5 nights.

“Obviously, the prices this period were such that were not prohibitive, at least for the majority of the population,” emphasized Mr. Papacharalambous.

In general, he added, people are travelling, and the times when travel was a luxury have irreversibly disappeared
