Blues charge up the table halted by the North Londoners

Only leaders Lowestoft Town had taken more points from their previous ten matches than Brentwood Town, and the Blues hoped to narrow the gap between themselves and the Trawler Boys to five points with victory against New Salamis- but the visitors had other ideas. The Blues looked to be well on their way to a fifth successive victory when Shad Ngandu put them ahead on thirteen minutes, but the visitors struck back five minutes into the second half, Christos Batzelis earning them a point.

Leaders Lowestoft Town were back in action for the first time in almost three weeks, and it was like they’d never been away. Harvey Sayer put them ahead from the spot against New Salamis on seventeen minutes, and only a minute later it was two, Dave Hinton doubling the advantage. Before the break the advantage was doubled once more, as the Trawler Boys went from two to four. A minute before the break Jake Reed got his eighteenth of the season, and there was still time for an Adam Hipperson spot kick to make it four before everyone trooped off to stand in front of a radiator.

Twenty four minutes went by without any addition to the scoreline, and then the hosts scored two in a minute. New signing Josh Hazell made it five-nil, Harvey Sayer (headline image- Shirley Whitlow) emerged from the gloom to make it six, and right at the end the visitors got a goal back, Wranyel Hercules getting his side on the scoresheet with a free kick from distance. It didn’t help them much, the Trawler Boys four points clear at the top.
