Michalakis (Michael) Sammoutis

(from Ayios Dometios, Nicosia)

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our very much-loved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Michalakis (Michael) Sammoutis. He passed away in hospital at 2am, on Wednesday 12th October 2022, at the age of 68, after suffering a long battle with cancer and, at the end, Covid.

Michael leaves behind his wife, Elli (Helen), son George, daughters Despo and Constantina, son-in-law Simeon, daughters-in-law Anthie and Lucy, grandchildren Michael, Nicolas, Elena and ten-month-old Theo, brothers Stelios, Andreas and Renos, sisters Vasoulla, Maria and Sotiroulla.

Michael worked as a waiter/manager in Greek restaurants after coming to London in 1964; for the last 30 years he was the manager of Parkway Patisserie. Michael was a gentleman. Someone once described him as an angel, having dedicated his life to his family and work. He was a wonderful husband, a proud father and a devoted grandfather. Anyone who

was lucky enough to have had Michael pass through their life will tell you what a lovely man he was. Thank you for our beautiful family. Thank you for our life together. Rest in peace, Mike.

The funeral service will take place on Friday 4 November 2022, at St Demetrius Church, Logan Road, London N9 0LP, at 12.30pm. The burial and wake will follow at 2pm, at Edmonton Cemetery, Church Street, London N9 9HP. Floral tributes to be sent to Demetriou & English Funeral Directors, 131-133 Myddleton Road, London, N22 8NG, by Thursday 3rd of November. There will also be a donation box in the church for North London Hospice. The 40-day memorial service will be on Sunday 20th of November, at St Demetrius Church.

He only takes the best

God saw that you were getting tired

A cure was not to be

So, he put his arms around you

and whispered: come with me.

With tearful eyes we watched him suffer,

We saw him fade away.

Although we loved him dearly,

we could not make him stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,

hard-working hands to rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to us

He only takes the best.

Parikiaki extends their condolences to the family
