CGS GOLF HOLIDAY 2022- Paphos CYPRUS

This year’s annual holiday took place in May 2018 in Paphos Cyprus, the home of our ancestors, and one of the societies favourite golfing destinations. The weather was mostly good, 25 degrees C, with 1 rainy day, and the golf courses were immaculate and challenging.

The choice of the Athena Royal Beach Hotel in the Paphos was perfect. Fantastic views and location, walking distance to Paphos harbour, restaurants and bars. In the absence of our blessed Captain, the late Gill Kyriako, the holiday was arranged by Michael Falekkos and Savva Savva.

36 CGS golfers competed for the prestigious title of “Champion Golfer of the Week”. 

David Blackwood, showing his class and form, to lead the order of merit from Day 1 to Day 4 and hold off some strong challenges from the chasing field. David won the event by 1 point with a total score of 126 points. Andrew Savva came second with 125 points, missing a 6-foot putt on the last hole which would have seen him win on a countback. Also in the running were Charlie Strouthos and Andrew Adams, who both needed to play the last hole well: Charlie to par, and Andrew to eagle, which would have seen them winning the tour. The tension in the last group could be felt by all, as all 4 players were tied in first place at some point after 15 holes There were also possible winners in the penultimate group: Tony Philippou and Andy Odysseous finishing 3 points behind.
