The Bees secured their first win in two months, as they beat Aldershot Town 3-1 with an all round top class display at the Hive London.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bees were back at home, hoping to build on the point gained last weekend in the 0-0 draw away to Maidenhead United.
It was a bright start from both sides in truth with the Bees probably enjoying slightly more possession, especially in the final third, which led to the first chance coming from JJ Hooper, although Mitch Walker made an easy save to deny it.
The Bees continued to be a nuisance for the Shots backline with Alexander McQueen’s quick turn of pace nearly playing Hooper in again, only for the ball to just evade his path.
The Shots weren’t really causing much of a threat to Aymen Azaze’s goal and had appeals for a penalty for handball waved away by the referee after 22 minutes.
Despite the bright start to the game, the Bees were still struggling to make an impact from set pieces, but were continuing to create more and more chances as Aldershot began to look vulnerable at the back.
The Bees patience eventually paid off though after 32 minutes when a brilliantly timed cross from Lee Vaughan allowed Hooper to make perfect contact with the ball and head the Bees into the lead.
However, five minutes later it was 1-1 after Azaze was unable to deal with an Aldershot corner dropping the ball into his own net.
Even with the goal, the Bees continued to control the game and maintain their rhythm of play, but nevertheless went into the break level.
There was a lot more intent in the Shots play after the restart, playing with more confidence and restricting the Bees from getting out of their half in the opening ten minutes.
During this period of pressure, the Shots still didn’t really do much to cause Azaze any real difficulties in the Bees goal, other than one low free kick, which he just got his finger tips to, and this allowed the rest of the team to get more of a foothold in the game again.
Ephron Mason-Clark was having a really good game and managed to win his side a penalty after being taken down in the box, which he calmly converted into the bottom right hand corner, to give the Bees a 2-1 lead with about 20 minutes of the game to go.
Just before the final whistle substitute Tomi Adeloye pulled off a marvellous piece of footwork to set himself through on goal to make it 3-1, securing a well earned win for Simon Bassey’s side.
