The Anastasiades government is determined to get rid of Odysseas Michaelides, the Auditor General. It does not have the power to sack him but instead will initiate High Court proceedings! The crime committed? The AG is doing his job with transparency; exposing corruption and if that is a crime, then we live in a land of the deaf and the blind!
Arrogantly, the government refuses to hand over hundreds of “Golden Passport” files to the Auditor General for investigation by his Audit Offices. This shadowy conduct clearly reveals official cover up and complicity! Blackmailing and scaremongering tactics are applied by the government and risking the nation’s 2021 Budget in order to protect politicians, law firms and others involved with the scandal worth €9 billions.
For the first time ever, an overwhelming parliamentary majority did not approve the government’s Budget and Cyprus now faces a serious budgetary problem because the President and its political party have selected to conceal corruption.
The Parliamentary decision clearly exhibits a “Vote of no Confidence” in government and in fact, should call for new emergency presidential and parliamentary elections to clean out the stables of corruption by electing a new President and new parliamentarians on the basis of transparency and meritocracy.
Cypriots may have been half-asleep for years but certainly not half dead! They have finally woken up and demand justice…
