Two special refrigerators where Pfizer / BioNTech vaccines will be stored, were installed after arriving in Cyprus on Saturday.
 
According to a press release by the Ministry of Health, due to the special storage conditions at -75 ° C required for the vaccines, the Ministry of Health under the agreement signed by the European Commission with the manufacturer, proceeded with the purchase of two special refrigerators.
 
Approximately 130,000 doses of vaccine can be stored in each refrigerator.
 
“Τhe refrigerators have all the appropriate safety systems to ensure their proper function round the clock”, said officer of the Pharmaceutical Services Costas Chimonas, adding that a specialized team of professionals has been set up to address any potential problem.
 
As he explained and according to the National Vaccination Plan of the Ministry of Health, “the vaccines will be stored at a central location and will be distributed to the Vaccination Centers island-wide”.
 
According to the planning of the Ministry of Health, the vaccinations will be performed by trained nursing staff and Health Visitors at the 38 Vaccination Centers (with the possibility of operating up to 100 units) that will operate in all Districts.

The monitoring of the vaccination process and of stocks will be done through a software that enables to monitor the route of the vaccines from the storage area to the Vaccination Center.
 
Cyprus’ Minister of Health Constantinos Ioannou has announced that vaccinations in Cyprus will begin on December 27, along with the rest of the EU countries.
