Cyprus’ Ministry of Health announced on Sunday that two people with COVID-19 died, bringing the number of coronavirus-related deaths to 91. The Ministry also announced that 242 persons tested positive, with the number of cases so far reaching 17,718.
 

According to a press release, 125 patients are hospitalised, 28 of which in a serious condition.
 

On Sunday, a total of 7,218 tests were carried out, of which 1,831 were PCR tests and 5,387 rapid tests. The PCR tests confirmed 242 new cases, including 149 verifications of rapid tests from previous days.
 

In 180 cases, the rapid tests showed positive results, which will have to be verified with the PCR method.

 
Friday’s deaths were a 72-year-old man with underlying illnesses, and an 89-year-old woman with underlying illnesses.

 
Out of the 91 deaths, 59 or 65% are men and 32 or 35% are women. The average age of the deceased is 78.
 
 
Of the 125 hospitalised, 28 are in a serious condition, of which 13 are intubated and the others are in intensive care.
 

Furthermore, the 242 confirmed cases are 55 through contact tracing, 23 through private initiative, 14 in hospital laboratories, one from a doctor’s referral, one from samples taken from basketball and handball athletes, and 149 from verifications of rapid tests conducted in previous days.
