Those at particular risk include pregnant women, the over-65s, people with a long-term health condition, residents on low incomes, disabled people, and babies and children aged under 5.

Key tips include:

  • Please try to heat your home to at least 18oC if you have reduced mobility, a health condition e.g. heart or lung disease, or if you are aged 65+. This includes overnight.
  • Have hot drinks regularly, and at least one hot meal a day.
  • Have stocks of food and medicines ready so you don’t need to go out in extremely cold weather.
  • Check on older and vulnerable neighbours and relatives to make sure they’re OK.
