Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You is one of the all-time biggest Christmas songs, in fact, it’s one of the biggest songs of all time, full stop! But believe it or not, it has never achieved the ultimate crowning glory in the UK, until now.

It may have taken a whopping 26 years, but the festive classic is finally set to top the UK singles charts this Friday.

On Monday’s Official Chart Update, the single climbed to Number 2 and was just 900 chart sales behind the midweek Number 1, Ariana Grande’s Positions.

If the song continues on its current course, All I Want For Christmas Is You could very well reach the UK’s Official Chart summit for the first time in its long and storied history.

This week’s Number 1 will be unveiled from 4pm Friday on BBC Radio 1’s The Official Chart with Scott Mills, with the Top 100 published on OfficialCharts.com.

Mariah’s much-loved festive hit is one of four Christmas songs set to break the Official Chart Top 10 on Friday – streams of Christmas songs in 2020 are surging strongly as Britain wishes away the troubles of 2020. Official Charts Company data shows that year-to-date streams of Christmas songs now stand at 252m, up nearly 44% on the same period in 2019.
