Two people with COVID-19 died on Friday in Cyprus, bringing the number of coronavirus-related deaths to 87, the Ministry of Health has announced, adding that 410 persons tested positive, with the number of cases so far reaching 17,057.
 
According to a press release, 115 patients are hospitalised, 25 of which in a serious condition.
 
On Friday, a total of 12,042 tests were carried out, of which 4,132 were PCR tests and 7,910 rapid tests. The PCR tests confirmed 410 new cases, including 113 verifications of rapid tests from previous days.
 
In 199 cases, the rapid tests showed positive results, which will have to be verified with the PCR method.
 
Friday’s deaths were a 61-year-old man with a history of health problems, and an 89-year-old man with underlying illnesses.
 
Out of the 87 deaths, 57 or 65% are men and 30 or 35% are women. The average age of the deceased is 79.
 
Of the 115 hospitalised, 25 are in a serious condition, of which 12 are intubated and the others are in intensive care.
 
Furthermore, the 410 confirmed cases are 144 through contact tracing, two from testing passengers, 130 through private initiative, 19 in hospital laboratories, one from a doctor’s referral, one from samples taken from basketball and handball athletes, and 113 from verifications of rapid tests.
