Cyprus authorities announced on Tuesday that four people died from COVID-19 while 907 new COVID-19 cases were detected after carrying out 18,070 PCR tests and antigen rapid tests.

The total number of COVID-19 patients who have died since the outbreak of the pandemic in Cyprus is now 117 and the total number of confirmed cases 21,315.

Currently 154 patients are being treated in hospitals. The condition of 42 of them is described by the doctors as critical.

The four patients who have died are an 82 year old man who was treated in Nicosia General Hospital, an 83 year old woman who was treated in Nicosia General Hospital Intensive Treatment Unit, an 84 year old man, who was treated in Nicosia General Hospital Intensive Treatment Unit and an 88 year old woman, who was treated in Nicosia General Hospital. All four of them had underlying conditions.

Out of the 117 COVID-19 patients who have died so far, 76 are men (65%) and 41 are women (35%). Their average age is 80 years old.

Twenty out of the 42 patients whose condition is critical are intubated, five are treated in an Intensive Treatment Unit but are not on a ventilator and 17 in an Increased Care Unit.

The 907 new COVID-19 cases were detected as follows: 153 out of 1,002 samples taken in the framework of the process of tracing the contacts of already confirmed cases, ten out of 652 samples taken by passengers at Larnaca and Paphos airports, 343 out of 2,039 samples taken on private initiative, 27 out of 375 samples taken by the General Hospitals` Microbiological labs, 5 out of 57 samples taken after referrals by Personal Doctors and by special groups of the population through public health centres and 369 out of 13,805 antigen rapid tests.
