Cyprus authorities announced on Sunday the death of another COVID-19 patient, a 84-year-old woman, and 301 new cases that were traced and confirmed through PCR tests. The total number of confirmed cases now stands at 15,101. Moreover there were 202 positive results from rapid tests which need to be confirmed using the PCR method.

The number of COVID-19 patients who passed away is now 78: 51 men (65%) and 27 women (35%). Their average age is 78 years old. Currently 120 COVID-19 patients are treated in hospitals. The condition of the health of fifteen of them is critical.

According to the Health Ministry press release, the 84-year-old woman who died was treated at Limassol hospital and had no other health problems. The final cause of her death is COVID-19.

On Sunday a total of 9,845 tests were carried out: 2,427 PCR tests and 7,418 rapid tests. Out of the 301 new cases that were detected and confirmed through PCR tests, 95 concerned individuals who were found positive for COVID-19 through rapid tests carried out during the previous days.

Out of the 15 patients whose condition is critical 10 are on ventilators, one is treated in an Intensive Treatment Unit but is not on a ventilator, and four are treated in an Intensive Care Unit.

Out of the 301 confirmed cases announced on Sunday, 107 were detected out of 926 samples tested in the framework of the process of tracing the contacts of already confirmed cases, 70 were traced out of 870 samples tested at the private initiative, 25 were detected out of 248 samples taken by the Microbiological Labs of General Hospitals, two were detected out of 245 samples tested after referrals by Personal Doctors and checks carried out for special groups through public health care services, two out of two samples taken by homes for the elders and other establishments and 95 out of 96 samples taken for the confirmation of rapid tests with a positive result.

Moreover no cases were confirmed out of 18 tests of samples taken by people hosted in reception centres for migrants and 22 tests of samples taken from pupils, teachers and school staff.
