Turkish Cypriot father and son haircutting team Ossie and Erol Mehmet have always been known by regulars for their excellent trims and warm atmosphere in their Parkway barbers.

Their place is a favoured haunt of Camden Town faces, with the likes of Suggs from Madness, writer Alan Bennett and journalist Sir Trevor McDonald relying on the pair to keep them looking spick and span.

Now Ossie’s barber shop has made it through to a short list of the UK’s best hairdressers in the British Lifestyle Awards – as voted for by the public.

Ossie said: “We are proud to be deemed worthy of such a meaningful award. I have been in this profession for nearly 50 years and we have been working with my son for the last five years. My son has about 15 years of experience in this field. It is a tremendous feeling to be liked and nominated by our customers, and customer satisfaction has always been our priority. We are in very good company, alongside some really big institutions. We’re thrilled to have made it this far.”

Ossie Mehmet set up his first shop when he was a teenager is celebrating almost 50 year’s of cutting hair. Mehmet has marked his long service last year with the scissors by refurbishing his shop in Parkway, Camden Town.,
