We must do everything possible and intensify our efforts to bring Cyprus tourism back on track, in a careful manner, says Deputy Minister of Tourism, Savvas Perdios, who expects to have a clearer picture about foreign holidaymakers’ interest in the next ten days. Speaking to CNA, Perdios appears confident that all conditions are met for German tourists to have a leading role during this season, and that stakeholders may lay the groundwork for good results to continue in 2021 and 2022.

Perdios, together with other Ministers, will accompany the President of Cyprus during his visit to Israel, later in June. Asked about Israeli tourists, he says that this is one of the markets with the greatest prospect this year, and underlines the importance of resuming air connectivity with the neighboring country.

“With a slow, steady pace, we now must work all together to restart the country as a tourist destination, in order to be able to bring people to Cyprus,” he said.

Earlier on Friday, Perdios attended a videoconference with EU Ambassadors, at the initiative of the Foreign Ministry and the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, to inform member states about the decision to open Cyprus as a tourist destination.

The Deputy Minister also expressed satisfaction over the increased interest for Cyprus by foreign Media and noted the collective effort on the part of the government to inform the world about Cyprus’ achievements while dealing with the pandemic, and let people know how Cyprus can offer a safe vacation this summer.

Perdios said that next week, the Deputy Ministry is launching the second leg of its communication campaign, as Cyprus airports reopen on June 9.

Asked finally about air connectivity, he said that efforts concentrate on maintaining connections that existed before the pandemic forced all airports to shut down. He said, however, that as travelers’ demand increases, along with their confidence to travel, so will the availability of airline connections.
