As a positive and jolly old soul most of the time – singing and dancing around the home – when suddenly you find yourself in a little more of a flat state, it makes you wonder what’s wrong. It is a well-known fact that many people, seem to suffer in January. It seems a lot of people are all partied out after the festivities. It may be you are just tired, or that after all the partying, you may be tired but still actually miss it and want more, like that of post-holiday blues.

The running around, preparing, or visiting others, being with lots of people and or families, even if great, or possibly even difficult people or relatives, it can all leave you a little deflated and exhausted mentally and/or physically.

Taking charge and understanding you are not alone, that it is all quite normal at this time of year, helps a little. You may think you are feeling depressed possibly, but let’s eliminate that ‘depressed’ word entirely and say you are having some tired and or mellow days in order to recuperate and recharge those flat batteries.

Accepting the time rather than fighting it, will help one ease through it far better. Being around people that make you smile, laugh and lift your spirits will be your tonic at this time. If you are alone or prefer to be alone at this particular time, put on some movies that you enjoy, maybe some light hearted programmes or comedies. Do things you enjoy and that give you pleasure, with some easy thinking to occupy your mind. A simple hobby or something creative and constructive helps as you won’t feel like you are being miserable and wasting time, along with feeling sorry for yourself.

Read and educate yourself with new topics, go online if you can and see what’s available for you to take further in those subjects. These are steps ahead to help change and improve future prospects in work or paid hobbies for extra successful accomplishments.

Do things for improvement at this time, when nights are cold, it gets dark early and motivation may be at its lowest, as the winter months seem long, especially in the UK. There are courses on offer in abundance. The world really is our oyster, so let’s get out there and grab it – every day, month, season and year of it!

Utilise each moment, turn each negative into a positive and prepare for the new opportunities ahead coming your way!

Tips on beating the January blues:

Get moving – One of the best ways to boost your mood is with exercise. Try an exercise you enjoy, whether it’s walkingyoga or pilates.

Give yourself a health boost – Start as you mean to go on with a healthy January. You don’t have to give up all your favourite treats and spend every waking hour on the treadmill, but introducing some small lifestyle changes could really make a big difference. Go for a walk with a friend on a Sunday afternoon, or sneak more veg into your dinner?

Book a holiday – Give yourself something to look forward to by planning an unforgettable getaway for later in the year.

Pamper yourself – Use up that spa voucher you received for Christmas, treat yourself to some at-home pampering, splurge on new skincare products or book a table at your favourite restaurant. Make time for yourself and indulge in that well-deserved me-time!

Curl up with a good book – If you’re trying to spend less time on your phone and more of it on life’s simple pleasures, reading is a fabulous way to unwind.
