Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis said that if he could choose against whom to play his last match at Wimbledon — that would be rising Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas. The 34-year-old, who turned professional in 2003, is set to call it a career at The All England Club.

Baghdatis, ranked at No. 138 in the world, received a singles main draw wildcard by The All England Club. The decision to hand Baghdatis a Wimbledon main draw came as a bit of surprise as many suspected that the Cypriot asked and received one because he wanted to call it a career at The Championships.

A couple of days later, the 34-year-old confirmed what many suspected. Baghdatis and 20-year-old Tsitsipas have never clashed against each other. The Greek has emerged as one of the most promising and talented players from the younger generation.

Tsitsipas, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 6 in the world, reached his maiden Grand Slam semifinal at the Australian Open in January before he went on to make four finals in the first part of the season. It remains to be seen will Baghdatis’ wish to meet Tsitsipas be fulfilled at Wimbledon.
