Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou on the attack by the so-called “deputy President” of the pseudo-parliament Zorlu Tore against AKEL

The narrative of the supporters of partition is refuted by the joint action of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots

The so-called “deputy President” of the pseudo-parliament Zorlu Torre lashed out. He states that he considers AKEL is more dangerous than the far-right ELAM party.

Zorlu is clearly worried about the fact that AKEL participated in the European elections with a bi-communal ballot and elected Niyazi Kizilyurek to the European Parliament.

He is anxious because the messages being conveyed by Niyazi Kizilyurek’s election destroys the partionist narrative that both Zorlu and his party support.

AKEL’s bicommunal ballot, the election of Niyazi Kizilyurek, the participation of Turkish Cypriots in the European elections, and the common work by Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots that was done in the run-up to the European elections refutes the narrative of the supporters of partition and the perpetuation of the status quo in Cyprus.

At the same time, this fact highlights the need to continue the struggle for the achievement of a solution of the Cyprus problem that will reunite the country and the people within the framework of a bicommunal, bizonal federation.

AKEL remains consistent to the goal of the solution and reunification. To fulfill this goal we shall continue to invest in the great chapter that we have opened up for Cyprus and our people.
