The majority of tourists that visited Cyprus between June and September 2018 said they were satisfied to a great extent with their stay, a survey commissioned by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) has shown.

The survey took place at the island’s two international airports in the cities of Larnaca and Paphos.

It showed that tourists chose Cyprus as their holiday destination because of the sunny weather and the sea, the tranquillity and the attractiveness of the environment, the hospitality, its cuisine and culture, while 28% of them said they chose Cyprus because they had visited the island in the past or because friends and relatives had suggested it.

The survey reported that tourists that travelled to Cyprus between June and September appeared to be satisfied with their holidays to a great extent, with 62% saying they were completely satisfied, whereas 35% gave a rate of 4 on a scale from 1 to 5. Only 0.2% gave a rate of 1 or 2.

More than 95% of the tourists stayed in the government-controlled areas of the island, while only 2.2% stayed in the Turkish occupied part and 2% stayed both in the free areas and the occupied part of the island.

Of those surveyed, 85% said that Cyprus was their first choice to spend their vacation. Greece, Spain, Turkey and Italy were among the countries reported by tourists as their first choice instead of Cyprus.
