With all the party celebrations going on over Christmas all through to the New Year, how are you coping? Do you have good willpower to say no thank?! Eat as sensibly as you can most of the time and don’t torment yourself with guilt if you have ruined your regime and think that you will make the changes in the New Year – that is like self destruction. If you have a bad day, just go back to being good the next day or as soon as possible.

For an upset stomach, or if you have overeaten maybe, herbs like chamomile, ginger, mint or anise, all have natural stomach soothing properties, so that herbal tea after a meal can help digestive ailments.

In the event of over drinking, which is then usually followed by the craving of a fry up with bacon and eggs – you’ll be surprised to learn that this is actually good for you as the bacon and eggs contain the amino acid cysteine which is believed to help flush the toxins out of your body. Although most prefer the fry up the morning after the night before, try swapping the fried bacon for grilled or done in a non-stick pan and a tablespoon of olive oil. Do the same for tomatoes. Swap any fried bread for some wholemeal toast and all is good.

Another option is some fruit syrup/honey on toast. Fructose/sugar found in fruits and honey can help rebalance blood sugar levels.

Drinking plenty of water before you go to bed and another litre before facing the day and sipping more throughout will help you reach normality far quicker as the body gets extremely dehydrated with alcohol. Avoid coffee as this dehydrates the system, instead have mint tea.
