If the strikes go ahead, we expect:

  • the Central and Waterloo & City lines will have very limited or no service throughout the day on Wednesday 7 November, with normal services resuming the next day
  • the Piccadilly line will have limited or no service from approximately 14:00 Wednesday 7 November until approximately 15:00 on Thursday 8 November

Other TfL services will run as normal, but will be busy. Roads will be busier than usual.

Tube

We advise people to use alternative routes on Tube, rail and bus services throughout the strikes.

If the strikes go ahead, we will run as many trains as possible.

There will be very limited or no Central and Waterloo & City line services all day on Wednesday 7 November

There will be limited or no Piccadilly line services from early afternoon on Wednesday 7 November. Complete Piccadilly line journeys in the central London area by 13:30 on Wednesday.

Piccadilly line services will resume with delays by 15:00 on Thursday 8 November, with a good service running by approximately 16:00.

Holborn station is expected to be closed.

Interchange stations along the Piccadilly, Central and Waterloo & City lines will be much busier than usual.

These stations will be particularly busy during the morning and afternoon peaks and at times may need to close temporarily to prevent overcrowding: Stratford, Finsbury Park, Hammersmith, King’s Cross St Pancras, Warren Street, Green Park, Bond Street, Piccadilly Circus, Tottenham Court Road, Bank, Liverpool Street, Woodford, Mile End, Leytonstone, White City, Ealing Broadway, Oxford Circus, Notting Hill Gate.

Services on other lines will run normally, but are likely to be busier than usual.

Heathrow airport

We do not expect to run a Piccadilly line service – use alternatives for Heathrow Airport.

On Wednesday 7 November the last Piccadilly line train from Cockfosters to Terminal 4 departs at 12:41 arriving 13:45. The last train to depart from Cockfosters to Terminal 5 departs at 12:59 arriving 14:01.

During the strike, use TfL Rail and Heathrow Express services to/from Paddington station. The TfL Rail service is approximately every 30 minutes and takes 35 minutes.

These services are likely to be busy – buy your ticket in advance to avoid delays. London Underground tickets and Oyster are not valid on Heathrow Express services.

The A4/M4 motorway route to Heathrow will be busier than usual.

Buses

We will be running extra buses during the strikes. Buses are likely to be busy – allow more time for your journey.

National Rail

National Rail services are running as normal but may be busier than usual.

We advise Great Northern customers to change at King’s Cross St Pancras, Highbury & Islington, Old Street or Moorgate for central London as Finsbury Park is likely to be extremely busy.

London Overground, TfL Rail and DLR

London Overground, TfL Rail and DLR services are operating normally. TfL Rail services via Ilford are expected to be extremely busy and London Overground services from Chingford will be busier than usual.

Walking

Driving and the Congestion Charge

Roads in West and central London are likely to be busier than usual, in particular the A4 and M4 to Heathrow.

The Congestion Charge is in operation throughout the strikes.

Ticket acceptance

  • Buses, DLR, London Overground and TfL Rail will accept Tube single and return tickets and National Rail cross-London tickets on reasonable alternative routes
  • TfL Rail will accept single and returnTube tickets between Paddington and Heathrow
  • SWR will accept single and return Tube tickets between Waterloo and Feltham via Hounslow or Richmond
  • Thameslink will accept printed Tube tickets between King’s Cross – Finsbury Park and New Southgate – New Barnet
  • Great Northern will accept printed Tube tickets on the route between Highbury & Islington – Palmers Green
  • Travelcards will be accepted on other services as usual (within the zones of the tickets)
  • Pay as you go users will be charged the fare for the services used
  • Refunds will generally not be made, although Customer Services will consider any requests
  • Buses do not accept cash. Pay as you go using a contactless payment or Oyster card, or use a One Day Bus & Tram Pass
  • The Hopper fare is available all day and night – allowing Londoners to take unlimited bus and tram journeys across the Capital within an hour for £1.50
  • Find your nearest Oyster Ticket Stop
  • You can pay using the TfL Oyster app
  • Check your fare
