In the statement issued by the UN Secretary-General’s representative on the ongoing developments in the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Cyprus the denunciation of the Turkish provocations is avoided, something which, of course, is a matter of concern. These actions are manifestly illegal, unacceptable and condemnable.
However, we are in agreement with the way in which the UN Secretary-General perceives the resolution of the crisis. Mr. Guterres stresses that the best way for the final solution of this issue is the solution of the Cyprus problem. He recalls at the same time the relevant convergences, with particular reference to the fact that the natural resources will constitute a federal competency. AKEL proposes exactly the same way as well in our two statements which preceded the Secretary-General’s statement.
The exploratory program of the Republic of Cyprus must continue unhindered, and at the same time the crisis must be defused immediately and the negotiation for a solution of the Cyprus problem must continue from the point where it had left off. Otherwise we will continually find Turkey before us.
