Revenue from tourism increased significantly by 11.9% in the first ten months of 2017, the Statistical Service of Cyprus reported on Friday.

According to Cystat, on the basis of the results of the Passenger Survey, revenue from tourism reached €277,1 mn in October 2017 compared to €266,0 mn in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording an increase of 4.2%.

“For the period of January – October 2017 revenue from tourism is estimated at €2.493,8 mn compared to €2.228,7 mn in the corresponding period of 2016, recording an increase of 11.9%” Cystat said.

The expenditure per person in October 2017 reached €681,05 compared to €744,73 in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording a decrease of 8.6%. The expenditure per person/per day for October 2017 compared to October 2016 also recorded a decrease of 9.5%.

A decrease of 10.7% was recorded in the expenditure of tourists from the United Kingdom, from €825,59 per person in October 2016 to €737,08 in October 2017. There was a decrease of 8.0% in the expenditure of Russian tourists, from €731,99 to €673,26 in October 2017 and a 21.7% decrease in the expenditure of tourists from Israel, from €635,33 in October 2016 to €497,38 in the tenth month of 2017.

“The expenditure per person/per day for tourists from the United Kingdom recorded a decrease of 9.8% (from €80,94 in October 2016 to €72,98 in October 2017), the expenditure per person/per day for tourists from Russia decreased by 18.1% (from €82,25 to €67,33) and for tourists from Israel also decreased by 13.2% (from €124,57 to €108,13)” Cystat said.

According to the same report, the expenditure per person in the period of January – October 2017 reached €731,63 compared to €749,30 in the corresponding period of the previous year, recording a decrease of 2.4%. The expenditure per person/per day in the period of January – October 2017 compared to the period of January – October 2016 also recorded a decrease of 2.4% (from €78,87 to €77,01).
