Honour to the defenders of Democracy and the Resistance!

The 7th December, the day of the return of President Makarios to Cyprus after the coup d’état and the invasion, was established as the Day of Democratic Resistance by the Cyprus state. On the occasion of this anniversary, AKEL pays tribute to the resistance fighters and fighters for democracy who defended legality and the lawful government.
The best way to pay tribute and honour these heroes of Cypriot history is by safeguarding historical memory and defending the historical truth. The vindication of their sacrifices will be achieved through the vindication of Cyprus and the termination of the occupation, through the liberation and reunification of our homeland and people.
In conclusion, the government is called upon to give explanations about the unacceptable fact that it did not attend today’s events which took place to honour the Day of Democratic Resistance when the Anastasiades government itself provocatively participates in the memorial service held on the day of 15th July for the commandos who attacked the Presidential Palace in the treacherous 1974 coup d’état.
The government of Nicos Anastasiades through constant provocative actions is undermining the unity of our people.
