Snow has been falling in Haringey this morning (Sunday 10 December) and very chilly temperatures are forecast for the next few days.

We work closely with Haringey Veolia to monitor weather conditions and take action to try to keep the borough’s streets safe and clear from ice. Because this morning’s early weather forecast was for rain, no advance gritting was able to take place as grit gets washed away by rainfall. Once this morning’s rain turned to snow, Veolia put its priority gritting measures into action and began gritting at around 10am.

Veolia remain out and about across the borough today, gritting priority roads and pavements. This will continue throughout this afternoon and overnight tonight if necessary. The council’s grit bins have also been re-stocked to aid in the gritting operation.

We prioritise areas including major transport routes, transport hubs, high streets and pavements around schools. You can find out more about the action we take with Veolia, the roads we prioritise and where grit bins can be found here.

We know that snow and ice can cause significant disruption, especially for vulnerable and elderly residents. You can help by dropping in to check on any vulnerable neighbours and using salt to clear the pavement closest to your home if you are able to.
