Harry Kyprianou has today signed a three-and-a-half year contract extension at Southend United.

The 20-year-old produced a fine run of displays at centre back earlier in the season and was named September’s DeVines Player of the Month.

Kyprianou has played at left back as well as in central defence for Blues since breaking into the first team last season, but has experience at wing back for Watford, where he played at youth team level prior to his move to Roots Hall in 2015.

And after putting pen to paper on his new deal, the defender said he’s happy to have committed his long-term future to the club.

“It’s a mutual commitment from myself and the club,” he said.

“I started the season well and was enjoying my football until I got injured but this gives me an opportunity to really kick on over the next few years to help the club and myself reach the highest level possible.

“I’m grateful to the Chairman and the Manager for the faith they’ve shown in me and I look forward to repaying them on the pitch.”

Kyprianou added: “It was an easy decision to renew. I’m enjoying myself here and we’ve got a good squad of players that makes me think we can definitely push on and achieve something.”

After suffering a thigh injury in October, which has briefly halted his progress over the last two months, Kyprianou says he’s now fit and ready for selection and was sub for today’s versus Charlton.

“I’m back in full training and it’s just down to the Manager to pick me now.”

Harry is the son of Kypros and Fanoulla Kyprianou. (Seen in photo with her son Harry).

He also must be a chip off the old block of his dad Kypros Kyprianou who played for several years in the KOPA football League for Omonia, Ermis, New Salamis, AEL and the League representative team.
His uncle his.mum’s brother Prod Prodromou was also a top player too.

Harry’s older brother plays in the KOPA League for Livadia. And his younger brother for Omonia Youth.
