A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) Daylight Exercise, titled “CYPEGP – 02/17” was conducted on Friday, in the south coast of Cyprus, with the participation of SAR Units and Personnel from the Republic of Cyprus and Arab Republic of Egypt.

According to a press release issued by the Cyprus Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, (JRCC), the Egyptian ship T/S SHALATIN and the SAR Helicopter of the Republic of Cyprus took part in the Aeronautical SAR Exercise under the operational control and full coordination of the JRCC Larnaca.

The scenario dealt with a simulated “Maritime Accident at open sea” in which the Cyprus National SAR Plan “NEARCHOS”, was immediately implemented by the JRCC Larnaca in order to confront the situation, executing air medical evacuation operation from the Egyptian Vessel using a SAR Helicopter from the Cyprus Police Aviation Unit with a registered nurse of the Larnaca Civil Defense on board.
