Detectives from Tower Hamlets are appealing for information after a woman was sprayed with a noxious substance.

Police were called just before 19.00hrs on Wednesday, 27 December Westferry Road, E14 to a report of a woman injured after having a noxious substance thrown on her.

Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service. The victim, aged 26, was taken to hospital with life-changing burn injuries to her leg and face.

It is believed the victim was attacked in Marsh Wall, near South Quay DLR station, before running to Westferry Road which is where police attended.

The substance has been tested and confirmed as a strong acid solution.

No arrests; enquiries continue to establish the circumstances.

Officers are currently reviewing CCTV and pursuing a number of leads to identify the suspect, who was not seen by the victim.
