Nicolas Papadopoulos stubbornly refuses to clarify whether he will seek a bizonal, bicommunal federal solution as set out by the parameters of the United Nations or whether he will address the Secretary-General of the Organization with the same ambiguities and minced words as those they had agreed to say to the Cypriot people during the pre-election campaign with EDEK Socialist party leader Marinos Sizopoulos and the other anti-federation leaders who support his candidacy.
Nikos Anastasiades, on his part, needs to clarify whether he will continue to handle the Cypriot problem by transforming his policies into those pursued by Nicolas Papadopoulos. That is to say, whether he will return to the policy of “protaxis” after the election campaign, or whether he will appease his party after the election too for the sake of the Nazi ELAM party. Mainly, Nicos Anastasiades must clear up how he will persuade the UN Secretary-General that he will not repeat what he did in Crans Montana when he deliberately threw away instead of utilizing the possibility of reaching a solution that would relieve us of guarantees, intervention rights and occupation troops.
The all-purpose policies pursued with minced words, pre-election transformations and petty-political considerations have always had catastrophic results, facilitating the given Turkish plans. The handling of our national problem demands clear positions, accountability, consistency and steadfastness, characteristics that only the candidacy of Stavros Mala has. That’s also the reason why it is the only candidacy that keeps the hope and prospect of a solution, the liberation and reunification of our country alive.
