Government labour force increased by 1,163 persons in October, compared to the previous month of the year, as a result of an increase in the casual staff by 1,187.

According to figures published on Friday by the Statistical Service, the casual staff in the government sector increased due to an increase of the staff in education by 593 and the security forces by 581, as compared to the previous month. The casual staff among hourly paid workers was reduced.

Compared to last October, the Government`s workforce grew by 2,989 with permanent staff dropping by 623 and the casual staff increasing by 3,612.

In particular, the Government’s labour force stood at 51,614 in October 2017, compared to 50,451 in the previous month.

The number of casual staff rose to 15,813, compared with 14,626 in September 2017, while the number of permanent staff fell slightly in October to 35,801, from 35,825 in the previous month.
